Dear Families,

During the next two weeks (April 25, 2022 – May 6, 2022), our 3rd- 5th grade students will take the PARCC assessment. PARCC stands for Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers. It is a test designed to measure student achievement to the Common Core Standards. These standards are expectations specifying what students should know at particular points in their education. The PARCC provides a snapshot of student achievement in reading, writing, and mathematics. Fifth grade will also be assessed on the DC Science curriculum.

Here are some tips for you to help your student do their very best every day, but especially during the duration of PARCC testing. We ask for your help in having your child be as prepared as possible in the following areas:

  • Get a good night sleep, be well rested (8-10 hours)

  • Eat a healthy breakfast

  • Arrive to school on time by 8:00am, and be here every day (especially during testing)

  • Have a positive “can do” student attitude

  • Plan ahead to ensure your child is present, reschedule any appointments the child may have or need to attend during this time.

Please be sure to review the following test-taking tips with your student. Remind your child to:

  • Read the test directions carefully

  • Read the questions carefully and be sure of what they are asking

  • Read all of the answer choices before responding

  • If you don’t know the answer to a question, skip it and come back if there is time

  • Eliminate any answers that you know are wrong, and then consider only those that might be right

  • Go back and check your answers if time allows

Estimadas Familias,

Durante las próximas dos semanas (25 de abril al 6 de mayo), nuestros estudiantes de 3º a 5º grado tomaran las pruebas PARCC.  PARCC significa Asociación para la Evaluación de la Preparación para la Universidad y las Carreras. Es una prueba diseñada para medir el rendimiento de los estudiantes según los Estándares Básicos Comunes. Estos estándares son expectativas que especifican lo que los estudiantes deben saber en puntos particulares de su educación. Las pruebas PARCC proporciona una captura instantánea de los logros de los estudiantes en lectura, escritura y matemáticas. El quinto grado también será evaluado en el plan de estudios de Ciencias de DC.

Aquí hay algunos consejos para ayudar a su hijo a hacer lo mejor que pueda todos los días, pero especialmente durante las pruebas PARCC. Le pedimos su ayuda para que su hijo esté lo más preparado posible en las siguientes áreas:

  • Dormir bien por la noche, estar bien descansado (8-10 horas)

  • Comer un desayuno saludable

  • Llegar a tiempo a la escuela a las 8:00 a.m., y estar aquí todos los días (especialmente durante las pruebas)

  • Tener una actitud positiva de "puedo hacerlo"

  • Planifique con anticipación para asegurarse que su hijo esté presente, reprograme las citas que el niño pueda tener o necesite asistir durante este tiempo.

Por favor, asegúrese de revisar los siguientes consejos para tomar exámenes con su hijo. Recuérdele a su hijo que:

  • Lea las instrucciones de las pruebas cuidadosamente

  • Lea las preguntas cuidadosamente y esté seguro de lo que están preguntando

  • Lea todas las opciones de respuesta antes de responder

  • Si no sabe la respuesta a una pregunta, sáltese la pregunta y vuelva si hay tiempo

  • Regrese y verifique sus respuestas si el tiempo lo permite
