A Message from our Head of School

Dear Parents, Families, and Students,
Yesterday’s assault on democracy was difficult for all of us to watch, and for our children, undoubtedly difficult to understand as well. While Congress ultimately confirmed President-Elect Biden’s election overnight, it does not change the reality that what our children watched on television and learned about on the internet may have profoundly impacted them. Meridian believes in the right to protest peacefully, but it condemns the messages of hate and racism espoused by many that stormed the Capitol building yesterday, and it stands in opposition to the insurrection they attempted.
Below, we have provided several resources that you can use to talk to your children about yesterday’s events. Meridian teachers will use parts of class time today to allow students to speak and process in an age-appropriate manner, and our counseling team is available today for drop-in counseling sessions for any students and families that wish to talk.

Estimados padres, familias y estudiantes:
El asalto de ayer a la democracia fue difícil de ver para todos, y para nuestros hijos, sin duda, también difícil de entender. Si bien el Congreso finalmente confirmó la elección del presidente electo Biden de la noche a la mañana, no cambia la realidad de que lo que nuestros hijos vieron en la televisión y aprendieron en Internet puede haberlos impactado profundamente. Meridian cree en el derecho a protestar pacíficamente, pero condena los mensajes de odio y racismo propugnados por muchos que irrumpieron ayer en el edificio del Capitolio, y se opone a la insurrección que intentaron.
